McNees Knives Product Safety, Modification & Aftermarket Parts Policy IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE McNees Knives LLC designs, manufactures, assembles, and tests its knives as complete products using specific components, dimensions, tolerances, materials, and assembly procedures. The safe and proper operation of a folding knife, including the function and engagement of its locking mechanism, can depend upon the relationship between multiple components. Modifications & Aftermarket Components Owners may choose to customize or modify their knives; however, McNees Knives cannot evaluate, control, test, or guarantee the safety or performance of a knife after it has been modified from its original factory configuration. Modifications include, but are not limited to, alteration, replacement, machining, grinding, bending, refinishing, or adjustment of:• Blades, lock faces or lock geometry• Lock bars, frames or liners• Scales or handle components• Pivots, bearings, washers or bushings• Stop pins or stop surfaces• Screws, hardware or spacers• Detent components• Aftermarket blades• Aftermarket frames or scales• Other components affecting fit, alignment, tolerances or operation Even modifications that appear cosmetic may affect component alignment, tolerances, lock engagement, blade travel, structural integrity or other aspects of the knife's operation. WARNING - LOCK FAILURE AND SERIOUS INJURY Improper modification, assembly, adjustment, repair or installation of aftermarket components may cause a knife to malfunction or its locking mechanism to fail. A locking folding knife should never be treated as a fixed blade. Failure of the locking mechanism during use may cause the blade to close unexpectedly and could result in cuts, lacerations, permanent injury or other serious bodily injury. Never use a knife if the lock does not engage properly, the blade has excessive movement, components appear damaged or improperly fitted, or the knife otherwise does not operate as intended. If there is any question regarding the safe operation of a modified knife, discontinue use immediately. Secondary-Market Knives McNees Knives cannot determine the history, condition, authenticity, maintenance, repair or modification history of knives purchased through the secondary market. Purchasers of pre-owned McNees knives should carefully inspect the knife before use. A pre-owned knife may contain aftermarket parts or modifications that are not readily apparent. McNees Knives does not represent that a secondary-market knife remains in its original factory configuration merely because it bears McNees branding or originally was manufactured by McNees Knives. Warranty Coverage Installation of an aftermarket component or modification of a McNees knife does not necessarily, by itself, eliminate all warranty coverage. However, McNees Knives' warranty does not cover damage, malfunction, excessive wear, improper operation, lock failure or other conditions caused by or resulting from an aftermarket component, unauthorized modification, improper repair, improper assembly or alteration of the knife from its original factory specifications. McNees Knives reserves the right to inspect a product submitted for warranty service to determine whether a modification, aftermarket component or improper repair caused or contributed to the claimed condition. Repairs and Restoration McNees Knives may decline to service a knife when modifications or aftermarket components prevent the knife from being safely restored to factory specifications. Where practical, McNees Knives may require replacement of modified or aftermarket components with appropriate factory components before performing service. Availability of replacement components is not guaranteed, particularly for discontinued products or previous-generation designs. Assumption of Responsibility for Modifications Any person who modifies a McNees knife or installs an aftermarket component is responsible for ensuring that the resulting configuration is properly assembled and safe to operate. McNees Knives cannot certify the safety, compatibility or performance of components manufactured, altered, installed or serviced by third parties unless McNees Knives expressly states otherwise in writing. Safe Use Before each use, the owner should ensure that the knife is functioning properly. If a folding knife exhibits abnormal blade movement, incomplete lock engagement, unexpected lock movement, loose components, damaged hardware or any other abnormal operation, stop using the knife immediately. Never intentionally test a locking mechanism by applying excessive force to the blade or by striking the spine of the blade.

If we find that the issue with your product is not covered under warranty, we will contact you with a quote prior to performing any repair work.
DETENTS: McNees folding knives are made to exacting specifications, including detents. We do not modify detents, and being unable to “flick” or "Spydie flick" your McNees folding knife open is not covered under our warranty.

BLADES: The blade on your McNees folding knife has been hand-fit with the handle to ensure optimal performance. For that reason, you should not swap blades from one folding knife to another. A blade that has been swapped and does not fit appropriately is not covered under warranty.
